Bill Gates Twitter Account

What has Bill Gates been up to? Since Gates left the role of CEO of Microsoft to spend more time working for his foundation it has been rare to see an article on his current activities. It seems Bill has decided to finally come out of hiding with a new Twitter account and  website.

When you think of emerging technology it’s hard not to have Bill Gates come to mind. That’s why it’s a bit ironic that it has taking this long for Bill to get his own Twitter account which he officially started yesterday. It was on his Twitter page that Bill also announced the launch of his new website called The Gates Notes.

The Gates Notes has an interesting collection of categories which center around Bill including “what I’m thinking about”, “what I’m learning”, “my travels”, “curious classroom”, “conversations” and “infrequently asked questions”. The timing of the launch of the new Twitter and The Gates Notes website is no coincidence. It’s in January that Bill writes an annual letter regarding his thoughts on the works of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Brian’s Opinion

I’m sure Bill appreciated a bit of time out of the spotlight. I also have no doubt that it must have been a dream of his to work full-time on his foundation. Unfortunately, when you have a foundation with your name on it, part of its success hinges on your popularity.

That’s why it was time for Bill to join Twitter and follow it up with his own unique website tied to his foundation. You can’t deny that Bill Gates is an interesting man. He represented the face of Microsoft for many years and watched it grow from a small company, with a handful of employees, to a global company with billions in revenue.

I’m sure Bill would love to see his foundation have as much success, but while doing more noble work. One way to accomplish that goal is to generate interest around Bill Gates the individual. Luckily for Bill, that’s exactly what Twitter is good at.
