The Indian Premier League on Friday signed up television channel ‘Colors’ as its entertainment partner and ‘Red Partners’ as its official food concessionaire.

“Cricketainment has always been IPL’s nature. Today we add ‘Colors’, the number one entertainment channel, as our partner,” said IPL chief Lalit Modi to announce the three-year deal the Twenty20 league has entered into on behalf of its franchise teams.

“There will be pre-match and post-match fashion shows, rock star concerts and other events,” said Modi with Bollywood stars Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty, part owners of IPL teams Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals flanking him.

In contrast to its troubles in China, Google is expected on Wednesday to announce a deal to broadcast matches of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, the country’s most lucrative sporting event, live on YouTube.

“Google is clearly aware of the potential of India,” said Jehil Thakkar, executive director, media and entertainment practice at KPMG, the professional services firm. “India is the fourth or fifth largest nation for internet traffic even though broadband and internet penetration is lower.”

The YouTube broadcast plan is a first for India and shows the appeal of the IPL to multinationals. Sony owns the television broadcast rights and others, such as Vodafone of the UK, have captured some of the main TV sponsorship slots.

Jan. 21: Hurt Pakistani cricketers have decided to “avoid” the Indian Premier League until Indo-Pak diplomatic ties don’t normalise, sources in the team revealed on Thursday.

The players, who didn’t find a buyer in the third IPL auction on Tuesday, held a meeting in Brisbane, where the team will play an ODI series against Australia. They decided it was best to ignore the event at least for the time being.

In a shocking revelation, which left her fans disappointed, India’s top rated WomanTennis player Sania Mirza said that she would quit Tennis after marriage. Sania got engaged to her childhood friend Sohrab Mirza in July 2009.

“As of now, I don’t intend to play professionally after marriage but that is still some time away,” said Sania Mirza. She did disclose when they are getting married.

Although Sohrab had said that Sania will be free to take a decision on her tennis career after marriage, it is not immediately known why Sania decided to quit tennis after wedding.
